Remember to bring your binoculars, as the reserve is a haven for birdlife, a great way for young ones to see wildlife in their natural habitat. Watch out for lapwings and curlews, alongside groups of oystercatchers with their distinctive black and white plumage, red legs and beaks.
To get the full experience, enjoy a family picnic on one of the picnic benches or sit on the beach and simply watch the world go by. Once you’ve spent enough time soaking up the atmosphere, you can retrace your steps back to your starting point perhaps for a cup of tea or an ice cream at the café.
Alternatively, you can follow the path around the reserve which offers further coastal to form a pleasant circular walk.
If you want to make the walk a little longer, keep going to the bird hides at Morfa Madryn Nature Reserve before you head for home.
Gruff Owen, Wales Coast Path Officer highlights:
"This gentle flat walk is great for bird watching and for the variety of scenes that you pass along your way. The expansive views of the beach, the lush salt marshes and the Carneddau mountains make for the perfect backdrop for a picnic on one of the benches along this part of the path".
There is parking, a café and toilets at the start point of the walk. Local buses stop at the car park entrance and the train station is a short walk away.
There is one gate between Llanfairfechan promenade and Glan y Môr Elias nature reserve. It is not locked and is accessible for medium sized mobility scooters. This gate can be opened and closed from either direction and it must stay closed because livestock graze the coastal nature reserve.
