Llanfairfechan to Morfa Madryn nature reserve

They have checked this route in person with their mobility equipment and gathered information like slope, path gradient and any potential barriers to help you decide whether it is suitable for your ability.

Route Information

Along the north Wales coast, this is a linear route with views of the sea between the path and Anglesey to the north and the mountains to the south. You can also access Morfa Madryn Nature Reserve, offering excellent bird watching opportunities. 

At the start of the route one loop can be taken around the Boat Pool (loop 1). The surface of the path here around the boat pool is level and tarmaced.  Towards the end of the route near the footbridge a loop takes you closer to the coast (loop2). The path here follows flat and well drained grassland.

Path Description

Surface: Well surfaced promenade. At approximately 1 kilometre into the route, at Glan y Mor Elias coastal marshland area, the path surface changes into compacted gravel and becomes slightly rougher. 

The path is well grazed, has good drainage and should be suitable for people using mobility equipment. Once at Morfa Madryn Nature Reserve, the path narrows and there is ramped access to three bird hides.

Route profile: The route profile tells you how high you can expect to climb and shows you the highest point on this route. The maximum height that you would need to climb is approximately 1 metre. 

Slopes: None

Path Width: The path is wide enough for all mobility equipment.

Kissing Gate: The gate is sometimes fully open, but users are advised to carry a National Key Scheme key (also known as a RADAR key) to enable access when locked. There is one gate between Llanfairfechan promenade and Glan y Môr Elias nature reserve. It is not locked and is accessible for medium sized mobility scooters. This gate can be opened and closed from either direction and it must stay closed because livestock graze the coastal nature reserve.

Parking: Designated disabled parking bays in the car park at the Beach Pavilion café (opens their Facebook page)

Toilets: Accessible toilets at Beach Pavilion café. There is also a public toilet with disabled facilities.

Other amenities: Refreshments are available on the promenade at the Beach Pavilion Café, which is accessible.
