You have the choice of 2 popular National Nature Reserves to enjoy, as well as a variety of extensive sand dunes, woodland scrub and a hidden castle. Merthyr Mawr nature reserve is a huge area of sand dunes accessible by bus. A well known spot of tranquility in Kenfig nature reserve is Kenfig pool, a great place for bird watching so remember to bring your binoculars. There are lots of different waymarked and obvious paths to choose within the reserve itself, ideal if you want just a bit of peace and quiet to yourself.
